Indian, Vegetarian

Mango is a family-run Indian vegetarian restaurant, which can be found in the heart of Wetherby and offers a unique dining experience.  As well as receiving brilliant customer reviews on a regular basis, Mango has an impressive roster of awards, including “Best Vegetarian Restaurant in England” – Good Food Awards 2015; “Best Vegetarian Restaurant in the UK” – Good Food Awards 2014 as well as “Best Indian Curry in Yorkshire” – Leeds Curry Awards.

Established in 2008 by Rekha Sonigra and her family, Mango serves food originating from their native home of the west Indian state of Gujarat, a cuisine not commonly found in North Yorkshire!

As well as serving unique recipes, Mango is renowned for its peaceful and ambient atmosphere.

Customer Review:

“As a meat eater I was dubious about going to mango, I like my meat dishes! I've been to mango several times now and despite not eating meat I've never left disappointed.
I love the fresh taste of light Indian food, the food here is fresh, zingy, tangy and Mango doesn't disappoint on any level. The food here is very similar to some we experienced in India, however, we were in a different province to where this restaurants flavour originate.”

Sant Angelo

Sant Angelo is an exceptional Italian restaurant, found on Wetherby High Street. The food is delicious, the front of house staff is attentive and the service is second to none! It is a personal favourite here at Manning Stainton. As well fantastic food, you will often find live bands playing, including a host of tribute acts covering the likes of Michael Buble (2nd March,) Freddie Mercury (9th March,) Neil Diamond (16th March,) and many others, all of which adds to its already lively atmosphere!

The kitchen is headed up by Italian Chef Paolo Dessi, who, along with his team has catered for restaurant goers for over 20 years! Paolo said ““A lot of care and attention has been given to the creation of our all dishes both contemporary and traditional to recreate a little corner of Italy here in Wetherby.”

“My chefs have come from different regions of Italy, bringing a true diversity to the menu. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you that all the ingredients we use are from either Italy or locally produced, and whenever possible, in season. In that way, we have created fresh dishes that tantalise your palate and leave you with a memorable dining experience.”

Sant Angelo is reasonably priced and their menu is extensive. Amongst many delectable types of Pizza and Pasta, which will leave all the family in awe, you’ll find the likes of dishes such as Caserecce Al Tonno (Thin Twisted Pasta, Tuna, Capers, Anchovies, Cherry Tomatoes and black olives with a touch of tomato sauce) at £11.95. Calamari Fritti (Deep fried fresh calamari served with lemon and tartar sauce) at £7.95.

Customer Review:

Sant Angelo was recommended by our B&B landlady and my wife and I really enjoyed our meal there. I chose the Pizza Sant Angelo which was absolutely fantastic - tomato, mozzarella, mushrooms, ham, chicken, black olives and rocket. My wife had the pappardelle Ferrari, which she enjoyed too.”

Customer Review:

“We visit around once a month. WW never disappoints. The fish is always fresh and a decent sized fillet of haddock or place served in lovely crisp batter. You can also have poached salmon. We ask for our chips to be well done and they never disappoint. Bread is fresh, plenty of condiments available and the service always friendly. Desserts available too if you have the appetite.”

Customer Review:

“Fantastic fresh cooked quality food.

Stopped off on the way back from Newcastle to Sheffield-needed a place to eat and not fast food.  A quick TripAdvisor search for Wetherby and the Scott's Arms came up with some quality reviews. About 5 miles off the  A1,  which was a 10-minute detour. But we are glad we did!

Do the same and don't miss out on an absolute treat! In a lovely area, it’s a lovely old pub with a homely feel and a top quality meal. We decided to go for the pie of the day which was steak and ale. It was a delicious, large portion of juicy, succulent steak pie with a lovely pastry and some perfect home cooked chips, crispy and fluffy.

Would recommend and hope to return now we know it's there. Enjoy.” - Visited January 2017 – 5 Stars (TripAdvisor)

The Swan and Talbot

British, Pub

A pub for more than 400 years, The Swan and Talbot in Wetherby was once a posting inn on the Great North Road.

Originally named the Dog and Swan, the pub was, until 1611, allowed to bear the coat of arms of the Swann family. The Swann family lived at Askham Manor in nearby Askham Richard.

The ‘dog’ was a Talbot hound – an extinct type of hunting dog whose closest modern-day descendant is the beagle – and the pub’s name was changed to The Swan and Talbot.

The pub and letting accommodation has recently seen extensive refurbishment and is proving to be a popular haunt for many of Wetherby’s locals and destination diners.  Inside, the pub has low ceilings befitting the age of the place, and at one end, a huge fireplace over which hangs a brief history of how it acquired its name.

As well as serving excellent, traditional with a twist food, it was named the Traditional Pub of The Year at the Yorkshire Life Food and Drink Awards 2016.

The Swan and Talbot has a varied menu, serving the likes of Seared sea bass fillets on beetroot & mascarpone risotto, fennel, beetroot & watercress salad at £14.95, Portobello mushroom & goats’ cheeseburger with fries & coleslaw £11.95 and much more!

Customer Review

“We visited today as we were passing through Wetherby on our way home. We were made to feel extremely welcome and a table was found for us straight away despite having no reservation. We all opted to have the two-course Sunday lunch and were treated to fast attentive service where nothing was too much trouble. The beef was pink, succulent and well presented with a nice selection of veg. One of our daughters tried roast parsnips for the first time and loved them! There was a good selection of desserts and clean plates were left by us all! Keep the standards high please, we WILL be back!”
