Rothwell is home to a variety of amenities, including some fantastic restaurants and cafés, so with that in mind, here are our top five restaurants in Rothwell…
1. Salute at The White Swan – Italian – Church Street, Rothwell LS26 0QL
This Italian restaurant aims to create a ‘neighbourhood’ venue, inspired by the ‘Italian table’ where people relax, share and enjoy each other’s company. They have a vast amount of options from your typical Italian pizzas and pastas to a seabass fillet with king prawns, baby potatoes, spinach and lemon and caper butter sauce. This coupled with the exceptional service; there is little wonder as to why Salute gets the number one spot in our top five list.
‘After my husband and daughter had run the Sheffield 10K, we decided to have lunch nearer home and away from the hustle and bustle of all the other runners. Our daughter suggested this place as she had been before.
Although it was busy, they managed to get us a table. Our waiter, Greg #1 (have to call him that as there are 2 Gregg's working there) was very attentive and polite and made us feel welcome, he even brought crayons and pictures to colour for the children on the opposite table.
I ordered the duo Sunday roast; gammon and beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings which was very tasty and plenty of it. My husband ordered a spicy pizza and our daughter ordered the pasta (carbs needed). We all enjoyed our meals and it was quite reasonably priced. Lovely place and nice surroundings, beautiful weather. Would recommend it.’
2. Dill & Bay – Modern British Food – Marsh Street, Rothwell LS26 0AG
This welcoming restaurant locally sourced British food in both classic and contemporary dishes. Head Chef and owner, Simon Jones, has developed creative and seasonal menus, from your winter warmers to your super summer dishes which everyone can enjoy. Just one of the options includes a roast chicken breast with a sage and onion pudding, charred shallots, wild mushrooms and a madeira sauce.
‘We had wanted to go to this restaurant since we saw the owner, Simon and his mum, on My Kitchen Rules and managed to get there for the first time 3 weeks ago on a Wednesday evening. The starters were delicious and our mains were probably some of the nicest food we have ever eaten. The dessert was scrumptious but I could only eat half as I was too full. Excellent service cannot wait to go on Sunday for Sunday lunch.’
3. Zoya – Indian – Aberford Road LS26 8HP
Zoya is a small restaurant with a rich history of delivering amazing Indian hospitality and cuisine. Their unique menu, attention to detail and friendly staff, have landed them in the top five restaurants in Rothwell. They have recently added a new dish to their specials, the railway cinnamon curry, which is a spring chicken with cinnamon, medium spiced herbs and fresh garlic and ginger. This is a dish served on an Indian train taking a long journey through the mountains.
‘We live local and visit Zoya a number of times a month. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and will do as much as they can to make sure your visit is top notch. The food is always superb, tasty and fresh ingredients. Yes it’s small and you might sometimes wait a little longer than your pre-booked time, but you do that as they look after all of their customers. At no time are you pressured to leave your table. Instead you’re encouraged to sit and enjoy. We will continue to return and will look forward to celebrating another new year with the staff. Well done on earning your badge from the YEP.’
4. Grand Indian Lounge – Indian - Wakefield Road, Swillington LS26 8DJ
This Indian restaurant and bar offers delicious dishes that will vitalise your taste buds and give you the highest dining experience. Through years of practice blending spices, they give their diners an experience of hand-picked tastes from India and the wider regions of Bangladesh. From your traditional Bhuna’s to their signature dishes, including a Mita Malai, a sweet and fruity dish with mangos, cream, mixed fruit, coconut and almonds.
‘We arrived late one Tuesday evening in the hope of getting a table and we're glad we did. We chose the Grand Indian as it was close to our B&B and the Trip Advisor reviews were very good. They were all true. Nice polite staff and very attentive, good hot food with a great choice. The chicken tikka balti was to die for - the best I've had in a long time and would order it again without hesitation. Reasonably priced with good sized portions. Many thanks to the Grand Indian Lounge for a fab meal and we hope to visit again.’
