2017 has been a good year for those looking to take that all important first step on the property ladder. In early October, Theresa May stated that the government would find an extra £10bn in the budget for the Help to Buy scheme, meaning that over 130,000 prospective First Time Buyers would be able to take advantage of the scheme. More details on the proposed funding are set to be announced in the Budget on 22nd November.
This year has also seen a significant rise in the number of First Time Buyers purchasing their first homes, with Halifax bank announcing that levels were at a ten year high. Although it’s difficult to say exactly why this increase has occurred, it may be related to changes to legislation surrounding Buy-to-Let purchasing, record levels of employment and of course the Help to Buy scheme which was introduced in 2013.
