Winter decorating

These DIY winter crafts are easy to do, cost effective and perfect for getting your family in the Christmas spirit.

 frozen bubble
Ice decorations

This decoration requires it to be below freezing outside so wait until the weatherman says it's going to be -2 tomorrow. You will need water balloons, three food colourants and space in your freezer.

Fill up water balloons with the coloured water and put them in the freezer. Give them at least overnight to fully freeze and pop the balloons the day after to reveal what looks like giant marbles. If it gets cold enough you might be able to freeze a bubble like the picture above. It's not usually cold enough in Leeds for that though.

winter branches
Winter branches

This is the perfect decorating activity to keep the children entertained in bad weather. Please supervise them at all times. You will need large plant pots, expanding foam, moss or green fabric, long branches, glue and glitter or metallic spray paint.

You should lay down a protective cloth or tarp to protect your floor as this is a messy project. Use a spray adhesive or paint on glue to coat the branches and then cover them in glitter. You can also spray paint them gold or silver. Once they have dried and you are happy with the finish, get someone to hold the base into one of the pots, slowly add the expanding foam until the branch if firmly in place. Cover the unsightly expanding foam with moss, glitter or some material and voila. There you have it, DIY winter wonderland branches.

snowy jar

Snowy Jars

These snowy mason jars are the perfect touch to add some winter cosiness. You will need, mason jars, Epsom salts, glitter, PVA glue and a paint brush. Finishing touches add twine and holly to the neck of the jar.

Coat the outside of the jar with the glue using the brush, only do half if you want an ombre effect. Fill up a container large enough to roll a mason jar in with Epsom salts and glitter. Then roll the jar to cover the exterior. Once these jars are light they will shine through the snowy glitter and give your home a Christmas feel.

We hope you enjoy these DIY projects. Please supervise children at all times when attempting these crafts.
