Its bank holiday weekend this weekend, so what better time to head to the Wetherby Lions Beer Festival at St.James Church Centre, Wetherby. Hosted in aid of the Yorkshire Air ambulance, this year’s beer festival celebrates the counties much loved Tour de Yorkshire. Over the 24th and 25th May you can expect music, food, drinks and hopefully some sunshine!  However, the main event for many is the array of craft beers on offer, luckily we’ve got some inside information on what you might find over the weekend and we don’t think you’ll need much more convincing.

Acorn Brewery - On Yer Bike

Brewed especially to celebrate local cycling events, what could be more in keeping with this year’s Tour De Yorkshire themed beer festival than Acorn Brewery’s ‘On Yer Bike’  A yellow jersey inspired straw pale ale bitter.

Pennine Brewing Co. - South 2 North

The Pennine Ways official route is South to North inspiring their 2018 beer. This 4.0% copper Beer offers a smooth sweet taste through its earthy robust flavours, whilst Pennines suggest we might even get a hint of spice and some subtle blackcurrant favours guaranteed to tempt those taste buds into having a second.

Revolutions Brewing - Tour de Cas

As it suggests in the name the Tour de Cas is another cycling inspired delicacy. This blonde ale will sure to give you your cycling legs. Brewed at the award-winning Revolutions Brewing Co. in the heart of Castleford it will be sure to please those true Yorkshire folk.

Wetherby Brew Co. - Wetherby Classic

It wouldn’t be Wetherby Beer Festival without locally represented Dark ale, luckily the Wetherby Classic is just that! Wetherby Brew Co’s 4.4% dark ale, brewed on home turf offers a hint of caramel combined with dried fruit and its real crowd pleaser.

Bingley Brewery - Bingley Bitter

The Bingley Bitter is described as teak in appearance and brewed using a select blend of five malts to create its unique taste. You can expect an initial citrus aroma followed by a dry, bitter finish. Whether you’re a bitter lover or not it’s a must try!

Hambletons Ales - Stallion Amber

Brewed in Ripons finest, Stallion Amber is what can only be described as a traditional Yorkshire best bitter. The strong malt flavours and enhanced bitterness are combined with a hint of hop to give it that modern-day edge.

Roosters Brewing Co. - Capability Brown

The vegan age is upon us and Rooster brewing Co have catered for that with their classic bitter Capability Brown. Deep Amber in colour you can expect a hint of hop combined with Challenger, Fuggles and Whitbread Golding- if you’re unsure what all that means the best way to find out is by giving it a try.

The Gin Shack

We know beer isn’t everyone’s first choice, but not to leave anybody out the Gin shack will be making an appearance to add a little spirit to the weekend’s festivities. You can expect local gins handpicked for the occasion!

The event kicks off on Friday 24th May between 6.00pm-10.00pm and continues on Saturday 25th May from Noon-8.00pm. Entry to the event costs a mere £6.00 and proceeds go towards the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We’ll see you there!
