Mortgage Repossessions Soar in 2006

The number of mortgage repossessions leapt by more than two thirds last year, according to new statistics.
The Department for Constitutional Affairs latest figures on possession actions show that banks and building societies seized a total of 17 000 homes in 2006.
This figure represented a 65% increase on 2005 and was the highest recorded since 2001.
