Public 'Losing Out in HIPs Lies'

13th April 2007

The Association of Home Information Pack Providers (Ahipp) has come out against criticism of the upcoming Home Information Packs (Hips) initiative, due to launch on June 1st.

Designed to ensure that all properties on the market are fully assessed with regard to factors such as structural integrity and energy efficiency, the Hips scheme has attracted some criticism over its feasibility.

Ahipp deputy director general Paul Broomhead is now arguing that may fears and criticisms surrounding Hips are unfounded, claming that the public could stand to lose out by failing to welcome the initiative, especially when selling.

Mr Broomhead asserts that the cost of implementing Hips will average out at between £300 and £500 per property, while stating that there are enough qualified domestic energy assessors to see that the assessment phase is successfully carried out.

"Under no circumstances will we not have enough energy assessors," he stated, adding: "Market forces will keep the cost of packs competitive with multiple suppliers competing for business."
