Super Hospital Ready for 2010
1 August 2007
The first phase of the new super hospital at Pinderfields will be open to patients in 2010
Over the next few years outdated buildings at Pinderfields General Hospital and Pontefract General Hospital will be completely replaced or upgraded to house hi-tech facilities to provide first class care in improved environments which have been specifically designed around the needs of patients and staff, many of whom had a hand in helping to design the buildings.
Wakefield's Clayton Hospital will close with services transferring to Pinderfields, Pontefract and community health care teams.
Julia Squire, Chief Executive of the Mid-Yorkshire NHS Hospitals Trust said:
"Its probably fair to say that this is the most significant news in the history of healthcare in the District."
MP Mary Creagh said:
“This is fantastic news for Pinderfields and I’m absolutely delighted for the hospital staff, patients, and residents of our District. We will finally be getting our long-overdue new hospital.
“I pay tribute to the staff at the trust who have worked incredibly hard to turn around the financial situation so that this scheme can go forward. These new facilities will transform patient care in our area.”
The first phase of the new hospital will be in use by June 2010, with phase two completed by February 2011.
