We may struggle to beat our cousins down-under at cricket, but the pupils of Kettlethorpe High School in Sandal are about to give them some serious lessons in Rugby and Netball very soon!
As part of a 35-pupil 17 day sports tour to Australia this October a major fundraising operation is in progress and estate agent Manning Stainton pitched in with a £500 donation from the company’s Community Fund.
Kettlethorpe High School is a large mixed comprehensive with pupils from very different backgrounds and, says Head of Physical Education Nick Simpson, the school is working hard to make the trip accessible to all pupils within the selected sports teams: -
“We are currently in a climate where children are depicted as couch potatoes and interested only in computers and video games,” he says. This is not an accurate picture and the children we are aiming to send to Australia are hard working and dedicated to their training. We’d like to thank Manning Stainton for their interest and encouragement.”
Branch Manager Dawn Lavelle commented that the Manning Stainton Community Fund was created to offer financial assistance to local initiatives and community projects throughout the region.
